This photostream from Flickr.com reflects that evening in July of 1964 https://www.flickr.com/photos/32405894@N00/7091637427/
This is fantastic information. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI have two questions for you.
1.
My mom says she saw the Caravan of Stars in summer of 1964 in Nashville. I'm trying to determine what that date is. You don't have it listed above (only Afton, TN). Are you aware of a Nashville date?
2.
What's the difference between Caravan of Stars and the Cavalcade of Stars? If you do a search on one, you get results for the other as well. They seem to be used interchangeably, but I don't think that's correct. I through it was Caravan of Stars. You have any thoughts on that?
Thanks!
Paul
The Caravan of Stars in Nashville was on July 29, 1964.

I saw it in Nashville in 1964, '65 and '66, I'm pretty sure it was in the summer and I only remember it as Caravan, but that's not a guarantee...lol
ReplyDeleteI was there in Nashville 1964. This needs to be added to the list above. Definitely 1964 for me.

ReplyDeleteI have just come across a ticket stub for the Caravan. I saw it at The Arena in Green Bay, Wisconsin on September 4, 1964. I'm sorry that I don't have a program. I have always thought that I saw the Supremes that night and now I think there is a good chance I did. Thanks for keeping track of this.
ReplyDeleteYou did see them because I went to a concert in Duluth MN around that same time.
DeleteI'm afraid not. The Supremes were performing in Brooklyn on September 4. They stopped touring with the Caravan of Stars earlier, around August 6, 1964 (before coming back for the winter tour).

ReplyDeleteI saw Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars in Louisville, KY at Freedom Hall in '64 or '65 or maybe even '66. But the lineup I haven't seen in any of these articles. I know I saw the Supremes, the Crystals, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Joe Tex, Solomon Burke, Chuck Berry (not completely sure about him), the Shirelles (not positive about them either) & others. I am sure about the first five! When would this have been. I don't find one like this anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe concert with the Supremes at the Freedom Hall was a Motortown Revue, on April 4, 1964. But your line up doesn't correspond to a Motortown Revue, nor a Caravan of Stars.

My Aunt's were in a group called The Results. They were on one of these tours for a few dates. Im not sure when, but I'll find it.
ReplyDelete1965ish, Union University Jackson Tn,Tony Joe White, Tommy Roe, maybe Neil Diamond ..long ago
ReplyDeleteThere was a date in Lakewood, Pa. in 1964 which I saw.
ReplyDeleteYes... it was on July 5. There's an ad posted at

My husbands father played Saxophone on many of the caravan tours his name was Nick Salamone.
ReplyDeleteAugust 4th Tulsa, OKla. at the civic center. Gene Pitney and many others. I didn't write all the names in my 1964, 16 year old diary. My review that night..."God, it was so tough!!! GP who I love, love, lots of singing groups mostly colored (sorry for the term, it was long ago), so cool!!!"
ReplyDeleteAnother website listed two Terre Haute concerts in 1964. A summer show at Memorial Stadium, Terre Haute on July 20, 1964. And a better documented show on November 22 1964. Anyone have evidence the tour came to Terre Haute in July 1964?
ReplyDeleteI don't see this date mentioned anywhere, but I saw the Caravan of Stars on June 30, 1964 in Canobie Lake State State Park in New Hampshire. It would fit the tour schedule in that the group played in Old Orchard Beach, ME the next night. Tour lineup that performed June 30 looks close to identical to the July 1 date. The Supremes opened the show in what I remember as white silk form fitting dresses that blew the audience away.
