Dick Clark gets the red-hot Young Rascals to headline this leg of the "Where the Action Is" tour. The remainder of the bill was rather pedestrian as the Critters and Knickerbockers had been chart acts but B.J. Thomas and the Triumphs, Keith Allison and the Shades of Blue were steady live acts but nothing to write home about at this point.

Thanks for posting. So happy to see this! I was at the Miami Beach Convention Center show. We were lucky enough to be on vacation within walking distance of the concert; otherwise, I never would have been able to go as they didn't come to Philly. Wish I could go back in time and see this show again, except without the screaming. Oh, the screaming!
ReplyDeleteSaw this show with my brother, mother and her friends in Municipal Auditorium, El Dorado, AR. And, yes I do remember the screaming girls!
ReplyDeleteI'm having a difficult time triangulating a "Where the Action Is" tour show, held in Huntington, WV, at the Cabell County Veterans Memorial Field House, in which (to the best of my recollection) the opening act was The Viceroys, whom then continued on to back up Billy Joe Royal's performance, followed by a short set from second billed Gary Lewis & the Playboys, and finally a set from the top billed Paul Revere & the Raiders. I was in attendance, but I can't find any definite references. Have you or your followers any information on this 1966-67-era tour show? Thanks, S F Stinson
ReplyDeleteHello! Sorry you had to wait 6 years for a reply... According to setlist.fm, Paul Revere and the Raiders were there on July 2, 1967. Other sources online mention the tour, and if you do a Google search, a lot of posters for that tour will show up. I found them when I was looking for into on the tour just before that in the summer of '66. PR& the R's weren't on the tour I saw in Miami Beach in '66, but the Young Rascals and Critters were (just occurred to me that I saw 2 NY/NJ bands as opposed to the CA bands that you saw), and the rest of the show was the same as yours. Here's the link to the setlist.fm page. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/paul-revere-and-the-raiders/1967/veterans-memorial-fieldhouse-huntington-wv-1be15d20.html
DeleteI saw Paul Revere in 1966 on what I remember as a Dick Clark tour. I was 11 and it was my first concert. It was in Odessa, Texas at the Ector County Auditorium. I cannot find any record of it. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous. I was looking for info on the summer tour with a different lineup (Young Rascals, Critters, etc.) and did find mention of the Odessa stop here: https://www.rainbowplanet.com/revere.php
