I remember going to a concert in Muncie, Indiana, in about 1960, and I think he was the headliner, but I can't remember for sure if it was him, and it has been bothering me for over fifty years! I don't think there were any other performers of note, and I can't remember any of the music, just this good looking guy in tight pants that packed the Muncie Fieldhouse.Alpha Collinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03431404101844425788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5985914745530284734.post-85450980202686885652016-08-10T18:51:01.392-07:002016-08-10T18:51:01.392-07:00............Hi, at about the time of these concert...............Hi, at about the time of these concerts I was in an instrumental rock band in Columbus, Ohio with a guitar prodigy named Ritchie Stilson. Our agent booked us to entertain one of these lineups before their show. I was on bass and got to play "The Twist" with Duane Eddy on guitar, Chubby Checker singing, The Jive Five on backup vocals. It is one of the high points of my music career even though I was only 18. The cover of the program book listed it as a Paul Anka Production. It stopped in Rochester, New York at the Community War Memorial on October 14th, 1961. I attended, have the program book, newspaper ad, newspaper write up, and the handbill to confirm. The write up says it was a 2 1/2 hour performance, attended by 4,000 teenagers. It was a long time ago, but I remember having a great time.Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10942434838649459544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5985914745530284734.post-38530941756274154062013-10-24T19:10:44.582-07:002013-10-24T19:10:44.582-07:00I believe that there was a short 1961 Caravan of S...I believe that there was a short 1961 Caravan of Stars tour that I have not fully documented. There were other shows with Ike & Tina Turner, James Brown falling to the floor, etc. At the Auditorium here, it was easy to stand next to the stage and touch their feet, etc. Local bands like Tiny Morrie and Al Hurricane opened for them. The auditorium was huge, the crowds small and people stood around and danced--there was a slight difference in the ethnic make up of the crowd depending on who was being showcased. Yes, it was fun and exciting.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05818441855338314025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5985914745530284734.post-33075642724582654512013-04-14T03:31:03.233-07:002013-04-14T03:31:03.233-07:00aaaaaaaand I forgot to mention; The Shirelles, The...aaaaaaaand I forgot to mention; The Shirelles, The Ronnettes. It starred Charlie Rich, Carl Perkins and Carl Mann , who had a hit with the rock version of "Mona Lisa.". It was in Huntsville, AL at the Madison County Coliseum in 1964 (?) not sure of the year (quite sure it was '64) or exact date. The band I was in, The Jaguars, was approached by Huntsville's WAAY Radio. We were given a 3" reel-to-reel tape of six Charlie Rich songs to rehearse. We were paid an unknown, but small, amount. We played a 15 minute warm-up set and a set with each of the stars. We played the next night with Charlie Rich (by his request) at the National Guard Armory in Pulaski, TN. We couldn't believe that he had bookings BUT NO BAND! Hope you find this info helpful.
